About E-Bikes
An electric bike works just like a regular bicycle but with the addition of three key components — a motor, a battery, and a controller. Here's how they work together:
- Pedal assist (PAS): Sensors detect when you're pedalling and automatically activate the motor to boost your effort. The harder you pedal, the more assistance you receive.
- Battery: Powers the motor and is typically mounted on the frame or integrated into the downtube. It can be removed for charging.
- Controller: Acts as the brain of the system, managing power output based on your selected assist level.
Most e-bikes offer multiple assist levels (e.g. Eco, Tour, Sport, Turbo) so you can balance speed and battery range to suit your ride.
In the UK, electric bikes that can be ridden without a licence, insurance, or registration must meet the EAPC (Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle) standard. To qualify, the bike must:
- Have pedals that can propel it
- Have a motor no more powerful than 250W
- Not provide assistance above 15.5mph (25km/h)
- Display the motor's power output and, if applicable, the battery's voltage
Bikes meeting these criteria are treated like regular bicycles and can be ridden on roads and cycle paths. Electric bikes that exceed these limits are classified as motor vehicles and require registration, insurance, a valid licence, and the rider must wear a helmet.
On average, E-bikes can travel between 20-80 miles on a single charge, but the exact distance will be influenced by the bike model, the riders weight, the terrain, and the assist level used. Please check the product page for model specific range details.
No licence, insurance, or registration is required for EAPC (Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle) compliant e-bikes in the UK. These bikes have a motor up to 250W and a top assisted speed of 15.5mph (25km/h).
Most of our e-bike batteries take 4–6 hours for a full charge from empty. We recommend charging after every ride to maintain battery health.
Yes — our e-bikes are built to handle typical UK weather conditions. All models carry an IP rating for water resistance. Avoid submerging the battery or charging in wet conditions.
